The Lexington County Tennis Complex will host the 83rd Annual National Pulbic Parks Tennis Championships from July25 through August 2, 2009.  Organizers expect as many as 800 players for the event and are excited to be hosting the event.   The tournament will feature divisions for every age group and emphasizes youth and family tennis.  Prize money for age divisions will be up for grabs to the winners and should bring in some top ranked players.  The Radisson Hotel in Columbia is set to be the tournament headquarters and the event promises much more than tennis with live music, a casino night, and a children's night.

Lexington District One School Taxes may rise 8.5 mils on cars, boats, businesses, industry, and non-owner occupied homes according to a recent article in the Lexington Chronicle.  Lexington SC homes that are owner occupied would not be affected by this change.  The boards decision to make this move hinges on whether or not the district receives 6 million dollars in stimulus money or not.  If the increase takes effect, the increase will mean an extra 51.00 in taxes on every 100,000 assessment.  The district will be facing some tough decisions in the coming weeks that will hinge heavily on the status of the stimulus money.

The Lake Murray Dam is a great addition to our communtiy and has without a doubt had a huge impact on

area residents and their interest in getting outside and exercising.  Everytime I drive across the dam, no matter the time of day there are people enjoying the wonderful scenery while walking or running.  According to a recent article in the Lexington Chronicle, the Lexington County Council will be considering a ban on animals on the Lake Murray Dam walkway that should stop some of the problems associated with pets and owners who don't clean up after them.  The Cooper River Bridge faced some similar challenges on it's walk ways and has banned animals as well.
